At Ritual Meals, it's our mission to help new mothers experience the power of food as medicine in order to heal and feel their best after giving birth. During my first pregnancy, I knew the first few weeks of postpartum would be challenging and I wanted to be supported in my healing journey through food. It didn’t seem right that after delivering a baby and experiencing a dramatic body transformation, I’d be on my own to figure out what I should eat and how to heal, while stepping into motherhood. Although I heard stories and anecdotal experiences from family and friends, guided by generations of grandmothers, I was never taught in school or by our medical system how to own my journey through postpartum and early motherhood.
Growing up I always believed that the female body was powerful and magnificent, capable of growing a child, bringing her into this world, and nurturing new life. In my mind, a mother’s healing journey was always a priority, and in California I was surrounded by a diversity of cultures that shared this view. I had heard of medical systems like Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, which believed the first several weeks after giving birth are a deeply transformative and restorative period for the mother. In these precious weeks, what you eat, how you rest, and how you bond with your baby matters for your postpartum health. In most parts of the world, new mothers don’t experience postpartum depression, yet my girlfriends did. What I heard from these new stories was that I was susceptible to it as well, and many more women would be. I faced some big questions: How can we support more women during pregnancy and postpartum? How can we make more choices that nurture the body and mind for optimal wellness during motherhood? What makes postpartum protocols around the world so much more effective?
Most of the world follows specific postpartum food protocols, which have stood the test of time. New mothers eat nutritive, home-cooked food with curated postpartum nutrition to help heal your body, boost energy, and improve emotional health. Ritual Meals sits at the crossroads of ancient and modern, Eastern and Western, science and spirit. We've distilled these global postpartum food protocols to their essence and developed our nutrition philosophy to support contemporary new mothers. We designed The Postpartum Program to deliver powerful and healing postpartum nutrition through organic meals, snacks, and teas. We use nutrient rich, 100% whole foods, because we understand that food has the power to help you heal and feel your best after giving birth.
We understand that as a new mother, you’ve got one of the hardest jobs in the world. As you transition into motherhood, we hope that you’ll experience the collective wisdom of generations of women who have benefited from the power of food as medicine, delivered by Ritual Meals. We are honored to be a part of your postpartum healing journey, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
